How Long Does Lip Filler Last? (And What Changes That)
By Mallory Radvansky, APRN-CNP · June 2, 2026
One of the first questions people ask about lip filler is how long it lasts. The honest answer is: it depends. Most hyaluronic acid lip filler lasts several months to a year or more, and several things move that number.
What affects how long lip filler lasts
- The product. Different fillers are designed with different consistency and longevity.
- How much was used. Subtle treatments may fade more noticeably than fuller ones.
- Your metabolism. Some people break filler down faster than others.
- Lip movement. Lips are among the most mobile areas of the face, so filler here often does not last as long as in the cheeks or jawline.
- Lifestyle factors. Things like sun exposure and smoking can affect how your skin and lips age.
Will it all disappear at once?
No. Filler fades gradually. Most people notice a slow return toward their starting point rather than a sudden change.
When should I get a touch-up?
Many clients return when they notice their lips look less hydrated or less defined than they like. A conservative touch-up before filler has fully worn off can often maintain results with less product overall.
What if I do not like it?
Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed. That is one reason we start conservatively and build slowly.

Quick answers
Does lip filler dissolve faster if you work out a lot?
Some people metabolize filler faster, and a very active metabolism can play a role. Your provider can give you a realistic expectation based on your history.
